This workflow chains specific instructions together—such as making the purchase of a new security amount contingent on the incoming cash proceeds of a simultaneous security delivery—thereby avoiding the need to draw on extra credit lines.

5. Delivery versus Payment (DvP) Settlement

Action: The final leg of the workflow is executed inside a Central Securities Depository (CSD).

Liquidity Impact: Through Delivery versus Payment (DvP), the legal ownership of the security amount is transferred to the buyer simultaneously with the definitive transfer of cash liquidity to the seller. This eliminates principal risk—the danger that one party delivers their asset but the other side defaults on their obligation.
